Wellbutrin and Its Side Effects

04:50:34 GMT, Sat, Nov 21, 2009

Wellbutrin [prescription drug, generic available]: works by altering levels of the brain chemicals norepinephrine and dopamine. It is NOT chemically related to other antidepressants such as Paxil and Prozac. Antidepressant medications are used to treat a variety of differing conditions, including depression. These medications can help prevent suicidal thoughts/attempts and provide other important benefits. However, studies have shown that a small number of people who take antidepressants for any condition may experience worsening depression, other mental/mood symptoms, or suicidal thoughts/attempts. Therefore, talk to your doctor!

Side Effects of Wellbutrin: There is a risk of seizure with WELLBUTRIN XL which increases with higher doses. Seizures occurred in approximately four out of 1,000 patients treated. There are many other side effects with the most common being (percentage of people with this side effect in brackets): Agitation (up to 32%), Dry mouth (up to 28%), Constipation (up to 26%), Dizziness (up to 22%), Excessive sweating (up to 22%), Tremor (up to 21%).

Comparisons with Other Anti-Depressants: A recent study revealed that the three most commonly prescribed anti-depressants had about the same effectiveness. Drugs tested were paxil (paroxetine), prozac (fluoxetine) and zoloft (sertraline). This study followed depressed patients for nine months, well beyond the acute depressive phase. While similar tests do not yet seem available for two newer antidepressants, wellbutrin and lexapro, it is likely that they are also equally effective. For specific side effects of these others... Paxil Side Effects   Prozac Side Effects   Wellbutrin Side Effects   Lexapro Side Effects. The above study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Dec 19, 2001.

Daily Self Improvement Tip

You must train your intuition - you must trust that small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide. Your intuition is your instrument. If you can imagine, I throw a spear into the dark. That is my intuition..... Ingmar Bergman

The key is to be willing to have the spear hit nothing! Just retrieve it and hurl it again. Mistakes? Who cares? Who's counting?

Excerpt from the book Finding Your Soul in the Spirituality Maze:   "Many New Age folks whine these days about how difficult Jane Roberts is to read and understand. They fail to see how the decades of her persistent growth and deepening development in many different spiritual directions encompass far more knowledge and understanding than can be conveyed in 60-second sound bytes. If you really want to "get" the teachings of the more advanced teachers such as Jane Roberts and Stalking Wolf, then I suggest you make the effort required. Personally, I have spent many hundreds of hours studying the works of these two gifted teachers; yet, I have truly understood only a small fraction of what they have to offer."   Continued here - free read.
