Special Knowledge Trap. Unhealthy teachers, gurus, shamans and naguals commonly set up organizations in which an inner circle gets the good stuff, the special spiritual stuff. Newcomers to the group and outsiders like you and me are not given this special stuff for several reasons:
We are unworthy yet.
This sometimes happens with teachers deceptively selling the general public one set of ideas and beliefs while practicing a very different set with their close followers.
We are not spiritually developed enough for it.
We might disagree with it.
It is a widespread neurotic drive among most all of us, to finally get that special love and approval from a parent-like figure. Those close disciples and longer-term followers who have access to the special knowledge glow with self-satisfaction and are proud of their accomplishments. They have achieved approval from the new parent, the group leader. They express thinly disguised condescension towards outsiders who misinterpret the guru's deceptive words whose meanings are only understandable to those with access to the special information.
Close disciples overlook the two-faced, deceptive, hiding and/or lying aspects of their leader's behavior, or they call it necessary for spiritual reasons. Disciples do not stop to contrast such unethical behavior with the greatest spiritual leaders of all time, say Buddha and Jesus. These two avatars did not share their knowledge of enlightenment, awakening, and love-thy-neighbor only with favored disciples.
