There are many tools available for reducing or resolving stress. They cover the entire range of available therapies.
Therapy is defined (Oxford, 1980) as "any treatment designed to relieve or cure an illness or disability." Symptoms of disability include bodily dysfunctions, emotional dysfunctions, thinking difficulties, spiritual belief difficulties, communication problems and undesirable behavior (all important therapy "stuff"). Because we are integrated beings, our dysfunctions are all interconnected. Therefore, the particular focus of our chosen therapy is often not that important. Changing our thinking changes our emotions and vice versa. Similarly, freeing our body can free our communications or result in behavior change. The old idea that the knee bone is connected to the thighbone, which is connected to the hipbone, has strong parallels in terms of psychological disability; if one area of dysfunction changes, all areas are affected.
If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn't ask me, I'd still have to say it. George Burns, 1896-1996
